Join us this Wednesday morning at 7:30am at New Hope for Families (1028 E. 8th Street, Duluth, MN 55805) as we volunteer packing backpacks.
New Hope for Families has received many new donations this month, and they need help sorting through them and packing them into backpacks. When a child is dropped off at New Hope for Families, the child is given a backpack with everything they need for the week - pajamas, socks, underwear, toothbrush, comb, etc. We will help fill backpacks for specific ages and genders (i.e., 4 year old boy, 4 year old girl).
As part of our commitment to provide you with the best membership experience possible, we invite you to participate in Harbortown Rotary's Strategic Planning Survey. Your responses will help us learn what you like about being a Rotary member and how we can improve your membership experience. With that said, our goal is 100% participation!
To begin the survey, click the link below. This anonymous survey will only take 5 to 10 minutes to complete and the survey will remain open until January 31st, 2024. Please only fill out one survey per member. Harbortown Rotary Strategic Planning Survey

If you've visited a library or community center recently you may have noticed something new: a wall-mounted case or perhaps a vending machine containing packages of naloxone, the nasal spray that reverses opioid overdoses. With addiction stuck at crisis levels in the U.S., Rotary members are joining the race to save lives, including by training and equipping community members with naloxone. In this issue of Rotary magazine, we look at how the effort is turning librarians, high school students, transit workers, and music festival staff into de facto first responders.

Also this month, Nick Krayacich, husband of Jennifer Jones, reflects on her historic presidency and his own unique, challenging, and at times enviable position as Rotary's first first gentleman.
In the "Specialist" column, we introduce you to a Rotarian whose day job as an aircraft dispatcher, aka "the pilot on the ground," involves keeping you safe in flight (i.e., She's the reason the "fasten seat belt" light comes on).
And finally, for Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we explain why so many people are still dying of this preventable killer and what Rotary is doing about it.
Use the Google Photos link below to share them with us, so we can spread the word about how awesome our members are and the impact we're making on our community!
If you have an upcoming program duty (please check the upcoming duty roster), please be sure to secure a speaker and provide notice to Chloe Strand (Chloe.Strand@hdcmn.org) as soon as that speaker is confirmed. If you are unable to confirm a speaker, please contact Rick Oase (rickoase@yahoo.com) or Stephanie Judd (sljudd@gmail.com) for help, consider other program ideas like a Ted Talk, presenting yourself on a relevant topic or your business, or creating some excitement for a community organization you are passionate about. It is your program, so think about what is interesting and engaging to you and share it with others!
If for some reason you are unable to switch duties with another member or you have simply exhausted all efforts to find a speaker, please notify Rick or Stephanie no later than 3 business days before the meeting (the Friday before the meeting your program is scheduled).
Harbortown Rotary has a Windows 11 laptop at the Kitchi Gammi Club for weekly Harbortown meetings. Presenters may bring a USB drive with the PowerPoint presentation (or whatever is wanted to be shown on the projector while speaking). Please share this information with your program's presenter.
Thank you for your help and thank you to all who are working hard to find engaging content for our upcoming sessions!
Upcoming Program Duties:
04.03 - Jim Boileau
04.10 - Gabe Walsh, CEO of Lake Superior Area Realtors Association

Chloe and Charity will use this information to create more dynamic and engaging content to share with potential club members and on social media!
