2024 Walk to End Alzheimer's

A few weeks ago we heard from Michaela Rai on the walk to end Alzheimer's and the affiliation with the Alzheimer's/Dementia Rotary Action Group.

Here is an excerpt from the Platinum National Team - Alzheimer's/Dementia Rotary Action Group

Why We Walk: We are Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors that have extensive leadership experience around Alzheimer’s including Alzheimer's education, patient care, prevention management, research for a cure and strategic partnership. We have chosen to band together as a Rotary Action Group to meld our passion and energies and direct them to supporting this wonderful effort.

This is why we are proud to support the Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's, the world's largest fundraising event for Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias. We share a vision of a world without Alzheimer's and we are inviting all Rotarians to walk with us in solidarity in more than 600 communities across the country.

The funds raised will help fight Alzheimer's disease through vital research, advocacy efforts and essential support programs and services in your communities. Your team donations will play an important role in improving the lives of people living with Alzheimer's, their families and caregivers.

Alzheimer's\Dementia Rotary Action Group operates in accordance with Rotary International policy, but is not an agency of, or controlled by, Rotary International.

If you would like to join a team or donate, Check out the Alzheimer's/Dementia Rotary Action Group page as well as Heather Salfer's team page for the Remembrance Roamers

President's Message
Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick emphasizes the importance of fostering a sense of belonging within Rotary clubs to truly harness “The Magic of Rotary.” She highlights that each club should find its unique path to achieve this, guided by the Rotary Action Plan.

Urchick shares inspiring examples, such as the Rotary Club of Beveren-Waas in Belgium, which has evolved by developing strategic and membership plans, analyzing local professions to attract new members, and varying meeting times to accommodate all members. Similarly, the Rotary Club of Holyoke in Massachusetts turned a post-pandemic challenge into an opportunity by relocating to a free community room and offering optional $10 lunches, resulting in a membership increase of 13 members.

She also mentions the Rotary Fellowship, Beers Rotarians Enjoy Worldwide (BREW), which has supported clean water projects by donating 25% of its dues to these initiatives. Urchick underscores that belonging is the spark that ignites Rotary’s magic, urging clubs to embrace inclusivity and reshape their experiences to meet members’ expectations.

By fostering a sense of belonging and utilizing the Action Plan, clubs can pave the way for a bright future for their members, communities, and the world.
