Join us Wednesday morning at 7:30am in the Great Hall - Kitchi Gammi Club (831 E Superior St., Duluth, MN 55802) as we hear from Shari Marshik - Executive Director of Upper Midwest Film Office
Upper Midwest Film Office (UMFO) is an independent 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding the creative economy through film, TV, and commercial production in the region. In a few short years since its inception, Shari has helped the region realize over $10M of outside investment through film & TV production. UMFO has shepherded over 50 projects to the region since its inception and is the cornerstone to a thriving ecosystem of businesses, nonprofits, and creators in Northern Minnesota. Shari will give a short overview of the industry, the kinds of roles and businesses that can recognized new revenue and how anyone (businesses or individuals) can benefit and be involved in this growing industry.
Shari currently serves on the Duluth Public Arts Commission. She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota Duluth. She lives in Duluth with her family and 2 dogs, with whom she spends as much time outdoors as possible.
The 2025 USA Curling Men's and Women's Nationals are coming to Duluth January 27 - February 2nd. One of our fellow Harbortown Rotarians, Lexi Daly, will be competing with Team Benson! All members of Team Benson are from Duluth this year which makes it even more special.
I thought it would be fun to get together and support her for one of her matches. For anyone interested in watching as a group, we will plan on attending her match on Wednesday 1/29 at 8pm vs Team McMakin.
The event will be held in the DECC Arena. Tickets are available to purchase through the website below. Choose Session 8 - Women's Draw #4 during ticket selection.
The Fargo Moorhead AM Club is leading a hands on project to build several school classrooms in Guatemala. They have room for four additional team members and we are welcome to join them.
The cost of the ground package for this trip is $850 which covers lodging, most meals and transportation from Guatemala City to the project site. The dates include R&R in Antigua, which is a fun place. This cost does not cover the round trip between Duluth (or MSP) and Guatemala City. You are on your own for booking that flight. I should be in the $800 range.
The dates for the Guatemala Service Project are March 15- March 23. The team leader is John Johnson from the Fargo Moorhead AM club. If interested, contact John at 701-371-5329.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Damberg, a cherished past president and dedicated member of Harbortown Rotary. Paul's commitment to service and community has left an indelible mark on all who knew him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Paul's family and friends during this difficult time. As we remember and celebrate his life, let us continue to honor his memory through our ongoing commitment to service and community.
