Project Joy committee member, Deb Roach shares how Project Joy is creating change in the Northland for children who depend on school lunches for their regular meals.

Project Joy was started to honor the legacy of Patrick Plys, a businessman and community leader who strived to make a difference in our region. Patrick lost his battle with cancer in January of 2012. His wife Laura, his children, family and friend developed Project Joy as a way to carry on his legacy and give back to the community in Patrick’s honor. Proceeds from Project Joy events benefit Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank’s Backpack Program, providing food for NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin children in need on weekends when school is not in session. These children miss their federally subsidized school breakfast and lunch and often go hungry on weekends.
